I'm not a medical professional, however I am a mother of an autistic daughter who is now an adult. I've been through every stage — from diagnosis, to therapy, and every hurdle — to help her reach her full potential. The key to handling this is acceptance and not comparing your child to other children with the same disability. I've been down that road, actually I've been down every road.

My daughter is 31 years old and I have fought for everything that she is entitled to, and every service that I was able to provide her with. There are so many stages that most likely you're not even aware of.
